City Press reports that despite South Africa’s unemployment rate climbing to 33.5% in the second quarter of 2024, the job market is showing signs of improvement. According to the August 2024 Job Market Trends report from online recruitment platform Pnet, hiring activity increased by 8% between June and July 2024. This year-over-year growth of 4% and two-year growth of 3% indicate a positive trend.
Fields such as Business Analysis, Nursing, Executive Management, Quality Control, and Building Project Management are experiencing increased demand for skilled professionals. Notably, architecture and engineering saw a 9% year-over-year increase in hiring, while manufacturing and assembly had a 6% uptick. Pnet also emphasizes the ongoing demand for accounting skills, aligning with the government’s National List of Occupations in High Demand.
